Gas Stove Flame Goes Out When You Release the Knob

A gas burner that lights only while the knob is held and goes out when you release it should not be kept running by holding the knob down or by bypassing a safety device. If you smell gas, turn away from the appliance, leave the home immediately, and call the gas supplier or emergency services from outside without operating switches or electrical equipment.
