On the AEG L99695HWD, E20 is a drain or pumping fault even when the machine appears to drain during washing. A code that appears only during drying deserves a separate check of the drying air filters and the drying phase, as well as the shared drain hose, drain filter, and pump path.

Write down the complete AEG display message, including any beeps or flashing pattern, then match it to the relevant branch below. A paused cycle or a simple door, water-supply, drain, or visible-leak problem can be checked safely; a persistent motor, heating, electronic, or internal-water fault is a stop-use condition. If the code is not listed, use the exact model manual and give the recorded code to an authorised service centre.

Stop the programme, turn off the water tap, and disconnect power only if you can do so without touching water or a wet electrical connection. Note whether the leak starts during filling, washing, draining, or drying, then inspect the inlet-hose connections, door seal, detergent drawer, and accessible drain-filter area without moving the machine or removing panels.

Steam can be useful for refreshing lightly worn, dry clothes and reducing some odors and creases, but it is not automatically a full wash, stain treatment, or universal sanitizing cycle. AEG says SteamRefresh is available on selected 7000 Series washer-dryers and above, while its steam guidance says the steam temperature is controlled not to exceed 40°C and that steam programmes do not perform a hygienic cycle.

Start by deciding whether the problem is dirt left on the fabric, detergent residue, odor, or a dryer-only issue. Use a program suited to the soil and fabric, do not overload the drum, and measure detergent according to the product and AEG manual.

A chemical or plastic smell from a brand-new AEG washer-dryer can be normal after unpacking and should fade over the first few drying cycles. First separate that new-product odor from a burning smell, smoke, abnormal heat, or a smell that persists or worsens. Clean and ventilate only as the AEG instructions allow; unplug and arrange service for burning odor or electrical warning signs.

Some AEG washer-dryer sounds are part of normal operation: a motor or drain-pump hum, relay or door-lock clicks, water sloshing, load-balancing movement, and a higher-pitched spin sound can all occur. A new, unusually loud, worsening, or persistent noise should be separated by cycle phase and checked for an unbalanced load, a trapped object, or a visibly kinked, crushed, rubbing, or poorly routed hose.

Start with the checks that affect every AEG washer-dryer drying cycle: turn on the water tap, clean any air filters required by your model, clear the drain filter according to the user manual, use a drying load smaller than the wash load, and select a program and dryness level that match the fabric. A very small load may finish early on an automatic sensor program, while a heat-pump model may take longer by design.

First identify whether your AEG washer-dryer is not heating the wash water, the drying air, or both. Cold clothes at the end of a wash can be normal because the final rinse is generally cold, but a selected heating cycle should show warmth during the wash.
