For a leaking Breville coffee maker, first stop the cycle and identify where the water begins: an overfilled or poorly seated tank, a full or mis-seated drip tray, a normal purge into the tray, a portafilter or brew-head seal, a steam-wand purge, or water escaping from the base are different problems.

First identify when the sound occurs and which Breville architecture is involved. Pulsing during espresso extraction or steaming, water being released during an automatic purge, and a short winding sound while a Grind Control chute moves can be normal on models that have those functions.

First identify whether the Breville is a drip brewer, an espresso machine, or only a cup or carafe that is cooling too quickly. Start by identifying the architecture and the exact symptom: Breville's drip machines such as the BDC650 use a water tank, carafe, filter basket, grinder, and brew controls, while espresso machines such as the BES840 use a water tank, portafilter, pump, heater, and steam wand. Check only the visible plug, water level, model-specific basket/portafilter, and displayed status; do not mix procedures between models.
