A musty or sour smell from a Miele washing machine commonly comes from wet laundry left in the drum, detergent or fabric-softener residue, dirt or mildew, hard water, or infrequent hot washes. Remove laundry promptly, clean only the accessible drawer, siphon, door seal, drum, and filter areas with the method allowed by the exact Miele manual, and leave the door and drawer slightly open to dry.
