An Amana washer can appear stuck during a normal pause or sensing period, but the stage where it stops is the fastest way to narrow the cause. Record whether it is filling, washing or sensing, draining, spinning, or waiting for the lid or door to lock.

First identify the odor rather than masking it. A damp, sour, or mildew smell usually points to wet laundry left in the basket, moisture in a front-load door seal, detergent or fabric-softener residue, or an overdue Clean Washer cycle.

Stop the Amana washer and keep water away from electrical connections. From a safe, dry position, note the first wet point and whether the leak starts during filling, washing, draining, or while the washer is idle.

First identify the sound and when it occurs. A hum during sensing, agitation, or draining, a clunk as the drive changes direction, or water moving through the pump can be normal on an Amana washer.

Start by noting whether the tub contains standing water, the clothes are merely very wet, or water drains slowly. With the washer stopped, check the visible drain hose for kinks, a clog, incorrect insertion, or an overly high route, and check the standpipe or utility sink for a visible blockage.

An Amana washer that appears not to fill may be waiting during sensing, using a low-water or bulky cycle, missing one of its required hot or cold water supplies, restricted by a kinked hose or inlet screen, prevented from running by a lid or door condition, or filling and immediately siphoning through an incorrectly installed drain hose.

If an Amana washer leaves clothes wet or does not enter spin, first determine whether water remains, which cycle and phase stopped, whether Low Spin or No Spin was selected, and whether the lid or door is securely closed and locked. Amana says an unbalanced load can reduce or stop spin, low or no spin settings remove less water, bulky items may need a different cycle, a standing tub points to the drain hose or drainpipe, and an unlevel washer can spin incorrectly.

An Amana washer that vibrates or walks is most often reacting to an unbalanced or overloaded load, a single bulky item, an unlevel floor or foot, loose pedestal hardware, or front-load shipping materials that were not removed. Stop the cycle and keep clear of the moving basket, then identify whether movement appears only during spin and whether the machine rocks when stopped.

When an Amana washer will not start, first confirm that the selected cycle is valid, the Start control is being held as the model requires, and the lid or door is fully closed and latched. Then check the control-lock or delay state, household power, and both water valves.
