Stop using an Amana NTW4516FW3 that only agitates or spins when the cabinet is leaned about 45 degrees. Do not lean it again as a test or treat the tilted position as a repair.

An Amana washer can appear stuck during a normal pause or sensing period, but the stage where it stops is the fastest way to narrow the cause. Record whether it is filling, washing or sensing, draining, spinning, or waiting for the lid or door to lock.

First determine whether the sound is a normal spray or splash during the fill or a sharp knock, bang, grind, or rubbing noise. Amana says a spraying sound during fill can be normal, while a water-inlet or drain hose can move against the cabinet as water enters.

First identify the sound and when it occurs. A hum during sensing, agitation, or draining, a clunk as the drive changes direction, or water moving through the pump can be normal on an Amana washer.

A hot Amana washer motor is not a diagnosis you can confirm safely from the outside. Stop the cycle, remove the load only when the basket or tub has stopped and the lid or door can be opened normally, and let the appliance cool without repeatedly restarting it.

A washer basket not spinning during the wash portion is not automatically a failure. Amana’s owner guidance says some cycles pause and include periods of agitation and soak, while its spin troubleshooting describes an out-of-balance problem as occurring during the spin portion after washing has completed.

Amana has an official F7E5 Product Help page under Top Load Washer, but that public page does not define F7E5 as one universal part failure; it only describes a five-minute control power cycle and service if help is still needed. Because the complete model is missing, do not transfer a meaning from another Amana platform or service sheet.

Separate the two symptoms first: agitation is the back-and-forth wash action, while spinning is the faster end-of-cycle water-removal action. If the washer agitates but clothes remain wet, check the selected spin setting, load balance, level, drain hose and any standing water.

On the Amana top-load washer family covered by the opened technical sheet, F7 E5 is a shifter fault: the main control cannot determine the shifter position. Replacing the actuator alone does not prove that the connector, harness, shifter mechanism, motor path, or control can move and report position.

If an Amana washer leaves clothes wet or does not enter spin, first determine whether water remains, which cycle and phase stopped, whether Low Spin or No Spin was selected, and whether the lid or door is securely closed and locked. Amana says an unbalanced load can reduce or stop spin, low or no spin settings remove less water, bulky items may need a different cycle, a standing tub points to the drain hose or drainpipe, and an unlevel washer can spin incorrectly.

A small amount of water entering an Amana washer while it is switched off is not a normal wash-cycle fill to troubleshoot by starting another cycle. Close the household hot and cold washer valves, keep the washer unused while you arrange service, and check only for an obvious hose kink, loose connection or visible leak from outside.

An Amana washer that vibrates or walks is most often reacting to an unbalanced or overloaded load, a single bulky item, an unlevel floor or foot, loose pedestal hardware, or front-load shipping materials that were not removed. Stop the cycle and keep clear of the moving basket, then identify whether movement appears only during spin and whether the machine rocks when stopped.

First distinguish a documented drain routine from continuous siphoning: Amana says some washers can run the pump for about 8 to 10 minutes after a failed fill or related condition, while an incorrectly routed drain hose can let water flow out continuously.

Stop the Amana washer and do not run another cycle when you smell burning, see smoke, scorch marks, melted plastic, sparking, a hot cord or a breaker that trips. If there is no immediate danger, leave the controls off and disconnect power only from a safe accessible point; do not open panels, reach under the washer or reset a tripping circuit to test it.

Start with the water supply before assuming the inlet valve has failed. Turn off both water faucets, disconnect power before handling the hoses, and place the hose ends in a bucket.

Poor cleaning on an Amana washer is first a cycle, load, detergent, water-temperature, or washer-care question; it does not by itself prove that a pump, motor, or control has failed. Run a small, sorted load with the cycle and soil setting that match the fabric and soil, load it loosely, use the detergent type and amount required by the washer and detergent label, and clean the washer using the exact model's care instructions.
